Elon students spend Spring Break working on Gulf Coast

Twenty-two Elon students and three staff advisers spent Spring Break working on rebuilding efforts in the hurricane-damaged areas of Mississippi's Gulf Coast. Details...

This is the 8th Elon trip to the region.

The group worked on houses in Waveland, Bay Saint Louis, and Long Beach (building rooms, laying foundations, helping raise two houses on stilts, sheet rocking, and insulation).  They also worked on preparing a building in Waveland to lodge volunteers by clearing out old materials and building bunkrooms and bunkbeds. During the week, they met with Father Tracey of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and met with an Elon student parent in New Orleans who game them a tour of impacted areas of the city.
