Kim Pyne, assistant professor of English, and two students attended the “Prophecy 2007” Harry Potter academic conference in Toronto on August 2-4. Pyne presented a pedagogical paper, “Hogwarts for Muggles: Teaching Harry Potter as College Literature,” and her students presented individual papers based on work written for Pyne’s winter term course. Grace Dow (2007 graduate) presented “Harry Potter: The Enlightened Philosopher,” and Mary Hansen (sophomore) presented “Songs Without Words: The Symbolism of Phoenix Song in Harry Potter.”
