Hiroko Takanashi, assistant professor of Japanese, published an article titled “Orthographic Puns: The Case of Japanese Kyoka” from the international journal “Humor,” Issue 20, Number 3, in August 2007. The paper adds the visual aspect to the sound aspect of puns, giving evidence of the Japanese orthography used in a poetic genre called kyoka.
