Football fans take part in world record attempt

Fans at the Oct. 13 Elon football game with Georgia Southern joined the staff from radio station 98.7 Simon for an attempt to break the world record for the largest game of "Simon Says" (as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records). Details...

During halftime, radio station hosts Jeff Wicker, Carmen Brown and Skip”The Prize Guy” stood at mid-field at Rhodes Stadium and directed thecrowd in a ten-minute game. Elon cheerleaders and local Boy Scouts werein the stands acting as judges for the event. Each member of the crowdwas given a bib with a number so the count of participants could beverified.

The previous record for the largest “Simon Says” game was 1,169, set inGlasgow, Scotland in 2006. Elon is gathering documentation, including photos and video of the event, and will send signed affidavits to the Guinness Book about participation in the event. Trip Durham, associate athletics director for marketing, promotions and home game management, estimates that the game included 1,813 players, well above the number needed to set a new world record.
