WSOE Executive Positions for January-December 2008

WSOE is now accepting applications for the 2008 executive staff. ANYONE can apply for these positions. We encourage anyone who is interested, even if you are not a DJ. You definitely do NOT need to be a Communications major–most of us are not.

Here are the available positions:

Program Director:

·        
    Ultimately responsible for all on-air facets of
WSOE

·        
    Must be able to handle any technical issues with
the station and be “on call” in case of station                     emergency

·        
    This person is responsible for all show
scheduling and attendance

·        
    Oversees the automation system as well as other
technical supplies needed in the studio

·        
    Primary individual responsible for teaching and
developing On Air talent through continuous staff                 evaluations – handles DJ
evaluations

·        
    Responsible for the conduct and actions of all
On Air personalities

·        
    Responsible for the keeping of accurate records
and files of all programming including dates,                     acknowledgments and hour-time
on-air

·        
    Responsible for working with the Music Director
on the music format and rotation

·        
    Refines program format noting that major format
changes may be made only by the Executive Staff

 

Business Director:

·        
    Handles
all accounts payable with the assistance of the Adviser and/or General Manager

·        
    Responsible for accurate current balance of
income and accounts payable at all times and may be             asked to report to the
Executive Staff weekly on account balances

·        
    Responsible for stipends and reimbursements of
staff for justifiable, Executive Staff approved debts

·        
    Careful attention to detail needed so that
accurate records are kept

·        
    Responsible for securing
partnerships/sponsorships with area businesses and revenue for the                 station

·        
    In charge of all underwriting and the functions
thereof, including business laws and FCC regulations        for non-commercials
stations

 

Music Director:

·        
Primary contact at WSOE for record labels

·        
Responsible for listening to submissions and
selecting tracks to be played by DJ’s at WSOE

·        
Responsible for following up with music labels
and promoters

·        
In charge of ordering, filing and care of CDs
and records

·        
Responsible for the inventory of all station
music material

·        
Responsible for all Music Staff weekly reports
to College Music Journal (CMJ) and other applicable music journals

·        
Responsible
for choosing music for rotation and the continuous updating of it

·        
Must work to ensure that language and decency
requirements are met in all music the station airs

 

News Director:

·         Responsible for recording daily newscasts

·        
Responsible for maintaining a weekly news show

·        
Manage a competent news team at WSOE

·        
Must cover breaking university or community news
as well as some national/international news

·        
Create original and professional news packages
for both updates and shows

·        
Will need to use production equipment for
creation of news packages

       Responsible for writing, editing, reporting and broadcasting — a strong interest in either journalism is necessary

 

Public Relations Director:

·        
Responsible for all general WSOE promotions –
should be constant promotion on campus

o  
Fliers, e-net ads, Pendulum ads/articles, TV
screen ads, table tents, etc.

·        
Maintaining the website and web promotions

·        
Designing/ordering/giving out promotional items
(T-Shirts, keychains, pens, cups, etc.)

·        
Promoting specific shows/promoting the schedule

·        
Organizing and promoting events

·        
Should have experience in/knowledge of graphic
design and web design

 

 

Music Promotions Director:

·        
    Responsible for promoting all content of WSOE
using same outlets and venues that the PR Director         would  use

·        
    Promote new music added to the booth each
week 

·        
    Bringing in bands for interviews

·        
    Going to concerts for interviews

·        
    Handling tickets and ticket giveaways as well as
other on-air giveaways

·        
    Promoting the bands that are currently being
played

·        
    Publishing charts (Top 25 songs, etc.) online
and in the Pendulum

·        
    Publishing a “Music Information” Binder for DJs
in the booth. This will include information about each         artist that is currently
being played (“sounds like” information, general band information, tour
                    information, etc.)

·        
    Must have expansive knowledge of and interest in music

·        
    Must work closely with both the Music Director
and the Public Relations Director

Production Director:

·        
In charge of creating spots, segues, and other
musical elements for use in WSOE programming

·        
In charge of all production material and
facilities in the station

·        
Oversees
the Production room and its use

·        
Responsible for assisting in the development of
professional voice work scripts

·        
Responsible for completion of production
requests for special promos or underwriting spots, when possible

·        
Should have some knowledge or experience in the
appropriate software and production equipment

 

Sports Director:

·        
Primarily responsible for handling all sports
broadcast operations

·        
Responsible for scheduling sports broadcasts in
conjunction with the Program Director/General Manager

·        
Primary contact with the Elon Athletics
Department. 

·        
Responsible for building and developing a competent
sports team

·        
Oversees all sports broadcasts including booth
and remote operations

·        
This person is technically sound in remote
operations

 

Personnel Director:

·        
Main contact between general staff and executive
staff

·        
Responsible for all training of new staff
members

·        
Primary person in charge of all move in day
activities as well as other service events (ex. Jingle Bell Rock).

o  
Must be available for up to 2 weeks prior to
school opening to meet with the General Manager to prepare for the start of
classes.

·        
Should have expansive knowledge of working the
booth

·        
Should be very familiar with all policies and
procedures of WSOE – FCC regulations, booth operations, evaluation procedures
and other policies

The applications are located in Moseley 201 (the station lobby in the
back corner by the mail room stairwell) on the table in the lobby. They are due NO LATER than December 4th in Nikki Wasikowski’s mailbox.

You will interview with the new GM after Dec. 4, and will know by the end of final exams.

EVERYONE must reapply — even previous executive staff members, and no
one is guaranteed a position just because he held it before.
