View a Total Eclipse of the Moon Wednesday, Feb. 20

On Wednesday, February 20th,  the moon will “turn to blood” as it passes through the Earth’s shadow.  Weather permitting, the Elon University Department of Physics will host a public viewing of this eclipse.    From 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM, we will be pointing the university’s telescopes at the eclipsed moon and other astronomical objects of interest, including Saturn, Mars, and the Orion Nebula.

Interested observers should come to the front desk of the Koury Athletic Center, near its northeast entrance.   From there, people will be directed to the rooftop observing platform.   Please call 336-278-6328 (x6328) after 9:00 PM on February 20th to learn if the weather permits us to hold this event.

For more information about viewing the eclipse, contact Anthony Crider at 336-278-6268 or acrider@elon.edu.   A map showing the Koury Athletic Center (building 49) and visitor parking can be found at the link below.

Details about the eclipse itself can be found at the link below.
