Three School of Communications broadcast students placed in
several categories of the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of
Excellence Awards and Hearst Awards.
Randy Gyllenhaal, an anchor on
Phoenix14News, was recognized with a Hearst Award in the television news
competition. Mitch Pittman, sports director for Phoenix14News, placed in two
categories in the regional SPJ television news competition. Brian Fink also
placed in the regional SPJ television news competition.
Pittman and Fink will find out later this month if they’ve finished
first, second or third in the competition. First-place winners are then entered
in a national SPJ competition.
