LSM students raise money for United Way

A leisure and sport management class raised $1,050 for the United Way of Alamance County by hosting two events in recent weeks.

Heather Jordan, director of resource development for United Way, received a check from students in the Spring 2008 LSM class “Programming and Event Management.”
Students in Hal Walker’s course, Programming and Event Management (LSM 227) , organized a “Burger Throwdown” on April 27 where participants competed to make the tastiest hamburgers.

Dick Shirley from Dick Shirley Chevrolet and Harold Owen, an adjunct professor in the Department of Leisure and Sport Management and current Burlington city manager, served as judges for the event.

The second event was “Non Chalant-a-thon,” held as part of CELEBRATE! week, on May 2. Students, staff and faculty teams took part in bocce ball, badminton, monster golf and corn-hole activities.
