Leaders needed for new campus Grief Support Group

A new campus organization, Elon Students of Ailing Mothers and Fathers, is being started, and I need dedicated student leaders to fill leadership roles within the organization.

This campus group utilizes peer-support, service, mentoring, and community outreach to help students cope with the psychological, social, spiritual, and academic difficulties associated with having a sick or deceased loved one.  The organization provides support to grieving college students through four components: Support, Service, Angels, and SAINTS.

Available leadership roles:

Support Group Director:  Arrange and facilitate Support Group meetings; raise awareness on campus about the support group itself and how it operates; work with on-campus counseling services; receive training and become a certified support group facilitator by National Students of AMF

Service Group Director:  Contacts all local organizations relevant to the mission of Students of AMF; contacts all other student groups with service related missions; plans service group events for the entire semester at the beginning of each semester; advertises the service events on campus

Angels Program Director: Contacts each department’s chair to find faculty members interested in serving as Angels (mentors to members of grief support group); interviews interested faculty members to determine of they are a good fit for the program; pairs students with faculty Angel with similar interests; trains faculty members on their role as an Angel; follows up with each student and faculty member to ensure they are forming a productive relationship; plans and holds an Angel’s dinner at the end of each school year to honor faculty members serving as Angels

SAINTS Program Director:  Finds local schools willing to allow college students to hold SAINTS program meetings with their students; recruits college mentors on campus; holds training sessions for student volunteers to discuss appropriate mentoring actions; plans and facilitates SAINTS program meetings; plans and holds SAINTS program dinner at the end of each school year to honor al participants and volunteers
