Elon Mock Trial to attend the Tobacco Road Invitational at Duke

The Elon Mock Trial program will compete against 26 other teams from 16 universities in the Tobacco Road Invitational Tournament on Nov. 22-23, 2008, at Duke University in Durham, N.C.  Elon is sending one team of eight students from all majors and departments to compete at the tournament, which is the third of the season for the group.

Among the teams in competition will be George Washington University, 2007-08 National Runner-up, University of California at Berkeley, and Villanova University.  Fellow Southern Conference school Furman University will also be in attendance.

Elon Mock Trial looks to improve upon their performance at their first two tournaments, the Carolina Classic, held on Elon’s campus  a month ago, and the Mid-South Tournament last weekend at MTSU. The team has been  preparing since the beginning of the year, meeting two and three times a week for more two hours at a time.

The Elon students that will be competing this weekend at Duke University are: Allison Carter ’09, Amanda Haefner ’09,  Kate Hopkins ’10, Robert Brafford ’11, Amelie Busch ’11, Jon Keller ’11, Sara Kaplan ’12 and Evan Glover ’12.

The team is coached and accompanied by William Warihay, a second year law student at Elon University School of Law, and Matrice Williams, an adjunct political science professor.
