Professors and students in the Department of Leisure and Sport Management attended two conferences in recent months to present research related to technology, media and college choice decisions.
Assistant professor Anne Marx and LSM student Bradley Holloman shared their work, “Is it just about the product? The association between exposure to NASCAR and purchasing habits of fans,” at the University of South Carolina’s annual Sport Entertainment and Venues Tomorrow (SEVT) conference in early November.
Faculty members Tony Weaver and Hal Walker, along with Jon Lim from Minnesota State University, Mankato, also presented “Filmmaking and video technology: applications for the sport and entertainment management classroom” at the conference with Elon seniors V.J. Galloway and Heather Wilson.”
Walker made an additional presentation with Lim – “Special event planning: Experiential learning and so much more.” Walker and Lim also presented a poster, “Factors influencing the college choice decisions of NCAA Division II elite track and field athletes.” The entire LSM Society executive board attended the conference and career fair, along with several other LSM students.
The SEVT event was followed two week later by the North Carolina Association for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Students Brandi Pifer and Bradley Holloman presented along Weaver and Walker on “Infusing Technology into the Sport and Recreation Management Classroom.”
Weaver and Walker obtained a CATL grant to support the development of a lab to encourage the use of technology in various assignments within the LSM curriculum, and they presented their initial comments on the success of this endeavor, along with Pifer and Holloman illustrating some project samples created by students.
