Margaret Miller analyzes holiday retail for News 14 Carolina, News and Observer (Raleigh, N.C.)

Margaret Miller, an instructor and executive-in-residence in marketing, provided expert commentary for News 14 Carolina in a recent news segment that examines what retailers are doing to lure shoppers in a holiday season overshadowed by a recession.

She was also quoted by retail reporter Sue Stock in the Dec. 16, 2008, edition of the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. “Retailers have been through down economies before, and they know that’Oh, go buy yourself a present’ doesn’t really resonate,” Miller said.

Miller joined Elon University last year after serving as vicepresident of marketing for Symrise Inc. in New York City and, beforethat, as director of marketing for L’OREAL USA and Avon products.

In the News 14 report, Miller observes that generosity appearsto be trumping possible concerns about the broader economy when itcomes to consumer behavior in the waning days of 2008.
