Recent trends in art have shifted the focus from the artist and the artwork to the viewer’s response to the work. Bakker’s large scale, multi-paneled recent works place the audience in a position to reveal their aesthetic by asking: “Does the artist’s intention matter? Does the viewer’s understanding of the artist’s intention structure the meaning of art?” Bakker’s work poses questions about competing interpretative frameworks for art, politics and theology. Exhibition continues through April 15.
