Visit to Duke Chapel – March 1

Join the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life for a visit to Duke Chapel for its University Service of Worship on March 1. We will be leaving from Boney fountain at 9:45 a.m. and returning to Elon no later than 3 p.m. Transportation and lunch will be provided!  

Event Description

Duke Chapel has the largest congregation of any university church in the country. Its Sunday Service of Worship is ecumenical in nature and feature sermons by the Dean of the Chapel, as well as renowned visiting preachers such as Thomas Long, James Forbes, and Tony Campolo. 

Sam Wells, the Dean of the Chapel will be speaking for the March 1 service.   

Dean Sam Wells was born in Ontario, Canada and grew up in Bristol, England. He studied at Oxford and Edinbugh Universities before working on his Ph.D. in Christian Ethics at Durham University. He worked in parish ministry in the Church of England for fourteen years, the majority of the time living and working in areas significant of social deprivation. In 2005, he moved to North Carolina to become Dean of Duke University Chapel and Research Professor of Christian Ethics at Duke Divinity School.
