Elon faculty members David Vandermast and Janet MacFall and their students presented their research at the annual Association of Southeastern Biologists meeting last week.

Sarah Galliher, a junior Biology major from Bristol, TN, gave a talk titled “Effects of beech bark disease on regeneration of high-elevation beech forests of Great Smoky Mountains National Park” with David Vandermast.

Julia Roberts, a junior Biology major from Columbus, OH, gave a talk titled “The composition and structure of beech gaps in Great Smoky Mountains National Park 15 years after beech bark disease infestation” with David Vandermast.

Alexandra Kay, a junior Biology and Environmental Studies major from Clemmons, NC, gave a talk titled “30 years of European wild boar (Sus scrofa) rooting on herbaceous plant diversity in beech gap forests of Great Smoky Mountains National Park with David Vandermast.

Ashley Steele, a senior Environmental Studies major from Maryland presented a poster titled “The effect of disturbance on the spread of invasive species in the Haw River corridor” with Janet MacFall and David Vandermast.
