Mary Knight-McKenna, Charity Johansson presenting at International Transformative Learning Conference

Mary Knight-McKenna and Charity Johansson have had presentations accepted at the 8th International Transformative Learning Conference. Johansson’s presentation, “Disintegration to Integration: Aging as a Transformative Process,” represents a convergence of her scholarship in the Transformative Learning project through the President’s Office and her work as a geriatric specialist in physical therapy.

Knight-McKenna’s poster, “Transformative Learning: Calling Home…,” explores the tensions between challenge and support as revealed in Elon students’ calls home during their transformative college experiences. The scholarship has emerged out ofKnight-McKenna’s work with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.

The theme of this year’s conference, being held in Bermuda in November 2009, is Reframing Social Sustainability in a Multicultural World.
