North Carolina Student Legislature selects Elon as best small university delegation

Elon University’s delegation to the 72nd Annual Session of the North Carolina Student Legislature received the Best Small University Delegation Award for the 2008-2009 year at the weekend gathering in Raleigh.

Jenn Batchelor, a junior mathematics major, was elected NCSL governor for the 2009-2010 academic year, the fourth Elon student to be elected governor since 2000. She was selected the Best Delegate Chairperson of the Year for her work with the Elon delegation.

Clark Riemer, a senior political science major, was selected as the Best Speaker of the Year for his debate participation in statewide meetings throughout the year. Caleb Tabor, a senior religious studies major, received the Best Speaker of the Senate award for debate during the Annual Session.

The NCSL is a simulated state legislative organization that debates public policy issues at weekly delegation meetings on campus and monthly statewide meetings throughout the academic year. Its alumni include several North Carolina governors, members of the General Assembly, and Elon Professor of Chemistry and President Emeritus, J. Earl Danieley.
