Jean Rohr keynote speaker at Greensboro education summit

Jean Rohr, an assistant professor in the School of Education, served as the keynote speaker on Aug. 15 at "Lifting Children to Life," an education summit sponsored by the Word of Life Church in Greensboro, N.C.

The summit’s emphasis on minority students, school struggles and the role of the black church allowed professors and other professionals to share research with attendees.

The event was covered by News 14 Carolina, a 24-hour statewide cable news channel.

Rohr distributed material about Elon for parents to take as they consider colleges for their high school children. She talked about issues related to parental involvement, the role of the black church in the education of minority students and increased literacy demands of the 21st century.

Officials from UNC Greensboro and the Guilford County Schools presented workshops as well.
