Newsweek-Kaplan names Elon “The Leader in Engaged Learning”

Elon University is one of 25 colleges and universities highlighted in the 2010 edition of the Newsweek-Kaplan college guide. This is Elon's second appearance in the guide; in 2006 Newsweek-Kaplan named Elon the nation's "hottest college" for engaged learning.

This year, Newsweek-Kaplan named Elon “The Leader in Engaged Learning” and cited the university’s “constant innovation and sense of community.”

Education writer Jay Mathews worked with college counselors to choose 25 top schools that served students’ needs “unusually well.” In a story titled “Finding the Right College for You,” Mathews featured Elon, writing that “no school works harder to dispel ennui and get its undergraduates into the thick of academic life.” He notes Elon’s consistent high marks in the National Survey of Student Engagement, which showed “that Elon students were much more likely to study abroad, complete internships, do volunteer service, and work with faculty members outside of class than students at other schools.”
