As a result of legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly, and signed into law by Governor Beverly Purdue on August 28, Elon University School of Law now has a representative on the North Carolina General Statutes Commission. The Commission advises the North Carolina General Assembly on the adoption and amendment of uniform state laws (such as the Uniform Commercial Code).
Dean George R. Johnson, Jr. has appointed Assistant Professor Andrew Haile as Elon Law’s first representative to the Commission. Appointments are for a two-year period. Other members of the Commission include individuals appointed by the Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the President of the North Carolina Bar Association, and the deans of each of the state’s other law schools.
“As Elon’s representative to the Commission, it is an honor to participate in the review and analysis of statutory issues and needs as they arise in the interest of North Carolina residents,” Haile said.
On behalf of the law school, Johnson expressed appreciation to Representative Pricey Harrison for introducing legislation to add Elon Law to membership on the General Statutes Commission. In addition, Johnson thanked Senator Daniel Clodfelter and Senator Fletcher Hartsell for their assistance during the legislative process.
