Seeking speakers for Take Back the Night on Sept. 30

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, the Resident Student Association and the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega will be hosting Take Back the Night, an event in which individuals will get the chance to speak out against sexual assault and domestic violence. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium.

We are looking for students who would be willing to share their stories, if they or someone in their life has experienced this type of violence. Those who speak will be kept anonymous at the event, so people will only hear and not see you. Hearing these stories is the most essential part of speaking out against sexual assault, especially when we know this is happening to people in our Elon community.

If you would like to speak, please email Leigh-Anne Royster (lroyster@elon.edu), Elon’s Coordinator for Personal Health Programs and Community Well-Being. The event will be open mic, so if you decide once you’re there that you would like to speak, you may do so.

Alpha Chi Omega will be selling luminaries in Moseley the week of Sept. 21 to honor victims of sexual and domestic violence. You may purchase a luminary for $5 in honor of a victim you know, and they will be displayed during the Take Back the Night march.  All funds raised will go to Family Abuse Services of Burlington.

Look for more details about the event in the coming week, and please encourage both men and women to attend this powerful event!
