Alamance News Publisher Recognized for His Support of Open Government

Alamance News publisher Tom Boney Jr. was honored for his outspoken support of the First Amendment and his dedication to open government at a luncheon Sept. 29 during Elon University’s First Amendment Day celebration.

Boney, who is a second generation newspaper publisher, received his award from associate professor of communications Tom Nelson. The plaque recognized Boney as a champion of the First Amendment and specifically mentioned his vigilant support of a free press and open government in Alamance County, N.C.

The award was made possible by the grant from the Liberty Tree Initiative, which was secured by communications professors George Padgett, Jessica Gisclair and Brooke Barnett.
