Elon Academy students interviewed on “The State of Things”

Three students from the Elon Academy, along with faculty members Deborah Long and Brooke Barnett, were featured guests on the Nov. 11 broadcast of "The State of Things" by National Public Radio affiliate WUNC in Chapel Hill. The interview could be heard live on 91.5 FM and is now online for listeners to access.

From “The State of Things” promotion:

“When Judge Howard Manning put Alamance County’s Cummings High School on a list of schools targeted for closure because of failing test scores, the President of Elon University decided it was time to help. He asked Education Professor Deborah Long to develop a college access program. Three summers later, the graduates of Elon Academy are applying to college. Elon Communications Professor Brooke Barnett has been documenting their story. Brooke Barnett, Deborah Long and three students from the Elon Academy: Shelby Oldham, Constanza Johnson and Christian Munoz, join host Frank Stasio to talk about the future.”

The show will air at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. today.
