A record 16 faculty members in the School of Communications will receive university Faculty Research and Development funds for 2010-11.
Two faculty members were granted one-semester sabbaticals, eight received summer fellowships, three received FR&D summer funding and/or Hultquist stipends, and three other faculty members (plus one summer fellowship recipient) were granted course releases for scholarship.
The following faculty members were awarded FR&D funds:
One-semester sabbaticals in 2010-11:
- Anthony Hatcher (associate professor) for a book project titled “Your God, My God, iGod: Religious Community in the Information Age”
- Byung Lee (associate professor) for a research project titled “People’s Attitudes Toward Movie Piracy”
Summer fellowships:
- Brooke Barnett (associate professor) for a book project titled “Digital Media Production: Visual Theory and Practice in an Interactive World”
- David Copeland (professor) for a book-chapter project for the “Oxford Handbook of Religion and the News”
- Vic Costello (associate professor) for a book project titled “Multimedia: Core Principles and Skills for Digital Media Production”
- Michelle Ferrier (associate professor) for a pedagogical project titled “Digital Media Entrepreneurship Course and Incubator”
- Kenn Gaither (assistant professor) for a book project titled “Public Relations and Globalization: Issues and Cases”
- Harlen Makemson (associate professor) for a research project titled “Marjorie Hunter: Pioneer for Women in the Newsroom”
- George Padgett (associate professor) for a new edition of his book titled “New Directions in Diversity”
- Glenn Scott (assistant professor) for a research/book project titled “Redefining Journalism in a Digital Era”

- Frances Ward-Johnson (associate professor) for a book project titled “Icons of African American Politics”
