Elon, Duke & UNC Physical Therapy programs collaborate for BikeAbility 2010

Paula DiBiasio and Doctor of Physical Therapy student volunteers Ashley Davis (2010), Heather Honeycutt (2010), Dana Tischler (2010), Jackque Scott (2011), Tracey Vincent (2011), Christina Ridenour (2012) , Angela Watkins (Elon DPT alumna), and friends Lucy Goodwin-Johansson, Megan Phillips, and Matthew McLaughlin participated in BikeAbility 2010, a bike clinic for individuals with disabilities, Saturday April 24th in Chapel Hill.

Physical therapists and volunteers helped fit children and young adults for helmets and adapted bicycles and worked on bike-riding skills. There were lots of smiles and many riders who experienced biking success for the first time!

BikeAbility is a free event for families and was the cooperative effort of Elon, Duke and UNC-CH physical therapy programs. University rivalries were set aside for planning, organization, fund raising and a day of family-centered events! This was the second annual bike clinic supported by these programs which included adapted equipment vendors, local businesses, face painting, helmet fitting, give-a-ways, obstacle courses, and plenty of bike riding!
