Rissa Trachman, students volunteer at Alamance Battlefield archaeological site

On April 24, Elon anthropology students Katie Walker and Matt Summers accompanied Rissa Trachman, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, to volunteer on a state-sponsored archaeology project at historic Alamance Battleground.

This is a two-year project that the Office of the State Archaeologist is conducting at the site in order to verify the archival documentation of the battle that took place there. The Battle of Alamance took place in 1771 between a group of farmers called the Regulators against the royal governor Tryon’s militia. The site is a North Carolina Historic Site and is open to visitors.
