Thirteen rising juniors at Elon have been named recipients of the 2010 Lumen Prize, the university’s premier award that comes with a $15,000 scholarship to support and celebrate their academic achievements and research proposals.

For the fourth consecutive year, a team from Elon University has been recognized for its performance in the prestigious Bateman Competition, which annually showcases the work of public relations students around the country. Elon was one of 16 teams to receive an honorable mention in the 2010 competition.

Associate professor Brian Nienhaus has been selected as the first Periclean Faculty Leader at Elon for his “Business and Sustainability” course, part of the new Periclean Faculty Leadership Program to champion civic engagement in the classroom, on the campus, and in the community.

"Whereas the public bodies that administer the legislative, policy-making, quasi-judicial, administrative, and advisory functions of North Carolina and its political subdivisions exist solely to conduct the people's business, it is the public policy of North Carolina that the hearings, deliberations, and actions of these bodies be conducted openly."
