Stephen Byrd, Carolyn Stuart and students attend inaugural Teacher-Research Conference

Stephen Byrd, an assistant professor of education, and Carolyn Stuart, an associate professor of education, joined nine special education teacher candidates May 5 at the First Annual Teacher-Research Conference sponsored by the Triad Teacher Researchers at UNC-Greensboro.

Triad Teacher Researchers is a newly formed group of teachers whose mission is to inform and support each other in conducting practitioner research. Teachers from elementary, middle and high schools presented research on a range of topics, including “Helping Teens Find Voice in Writing: Focus on Adolescent Males” and “Parenting, Identity, and Education from ‘Over There’ – Creating a Neighborhood School.”

An Elon alum and co-founder of TTR, Holly Sanford Wroblewski, shared her research on the effect of reflective journaling on student behaviors in her classroom at E.M. Holt Elementary School in the Alamance-Burlington School System. Teacher candidates spoke positively of this opportunity to explore with area teachers research related to classroom practice.
