Eastern Musical Festival returns to Elon on June 29

Elon University hosts the 12th annual Steinway Piano Gala in McCrary Theatre on Tuesday, June 29, as part of the Eastern Music Festival. This year's concert honors community arts patron and philanthropist Eda C. Holt, with the audience invited to a reception following the concert to greet her and meet the artists.

Eastern Musical Festival Steinway Piano Gala benefitting the EMF Scholarship Fund

McCrary Theatre, 8 p.m.

Admission: $19 or Elon ID. Tickets available June 8. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts box office, Monday-Friday, 12:30-5 p.m.

Begin the evening early and enjoy landscape artist Robert York’s exhibit in the Isabella Cannon Room prior to the concert. York’s abstract work finds a familiarity with the colors, contours, and textural qualities found in nature. There are suggestions of plants, flora and of trees seen against the sky. York will be in the gallery to meet guests and answer questions about his work. Refreshments will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

At 8 p.m., EMF’s distinguished piano faculty—James Giles (Northwestern University), Yoshikazu Nagai (San Francisco Conservatory of Music), Gideon Rubin (Los Angeles Music and Art School), and pianist in residence Tian Ying (Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.)—will perform waltzes and études by Frédéric Chopin and Carnaval op.9 by Robert Schumann in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composers’ birthdays.
