Career Services provides assistance to 2010 grads with online branding and reputation management

More and more young adults are becoming aware of the importance of how they are seen by others online and the consequences this can have on their future. For the past several years, a new step in the traditional hiring process utilized by HR offices and even graduate and professional school admissions officers is the “Internet pre-screen.”

Recognizing this fact, Elon Career Services is providing free access to every member of the class of 2010 for 3 months (from time of registration) to Brand-Yourself.com, a toolset that helps individuals create and manage a professional web presence. Even for those graduates who have already secured a job, this platform can assist them in increasing their professional network, especially when used in combination with resources like LinkedIn.

Elon graduates who choose to utilize this tool will be able to:

  • Create a personal professional website that showcases their qualifications and shows up at the top of Google search fields when employers search for them (as many as 3 in 4 HR offices now conduct some degree of Internet pre-screening of job candidates)
  • Grade the professionalism of their Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles to make sure they impress (rather than turn away) employers
  • Help them grow a professional network, especially when used effectively with other resources like LinkedIn as they work to get a foot in the door at their ideal company
  • Monitor who is talking about them to help make sure their reputation stays clean

Class of 2010 graduate Lauren Burgeson commented after using this resource that “Brand-Yourself is a very useful tool for individuals to build their internet image and can help you standout to employers.” Current student Alex Hughes notes that “I like Brand-Yourself because it takes a comprehensive approach to building your web image and can be a great marketing tool for anyone.”

Members of the class of 2010 can claim access to their free account at http://brand-yourself.com/signup
