BioBus downtown loop resumes for fall semester

The Downtown/East Burlington Biobus Express Route, an hour long loop from the Moseley Center that takes riders to several Alamance County community agencies within walking distance of its stops, returned to campus Tuesday afternoon for students who need weekday transportation for volunteer work in Burlington.

Students, administrators and faculty gathered Tuesday just moments before the first trip of the Downtown/East Burlington Biobus Express Route of the fall.

The first bus of the fall semester departed the Moseley Center at 2:30 p.m., just moments after Elon University President Leo M. Lambert offered remarks to students and staff about the value of the loop in connecting students with the community.

Stops have been added this fall at Cummings High School and at a Wal-Mart on South Graham Hopedale Road. The bus is free and open to the public

“I appreciate the support the Elon administration has given to the route to make it possible,” said Mary Morrison, director of the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement. “We’re getting a lot of feedback from first-year students that they don’t have their own transportation with them on campus, so this helps get them out into the community.”

The bus leaves the Moseley Center every hour starting at 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week. The last pick-up from campus is at 5:30 p.m. A full schedule for all BioBus routes that serve Elon and the surrounding communities can be found on the university’s transit website.
