Buffie Longmire-Avital, an assistant professor of psychology, was recently approved for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Health Disparities Loan Repayment Program (LRP) by National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD).
The Health Disparities Research LRP recruits and retains health professionals to research careers that focus on minority health or other health disparity issues. Longmire-Avital’s research focuses on how intersecting socio-cultural identities are related to the sexual health and substance use behaviors of black American women across the life-span.
