DanceWorks is having our second annual So You Think You Can Dance event on Saturday, Jan. 8th at 7:30pm in Whitley Auditorium. Will you be Elon’s Favorite Dancer? Details below.
Auditions to be a contestant in the competition will be on Jan. 8th at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley. Dancers must register at the door, pay a $2.00 audition fee and come with a 30-60 second solo in the genre of their choice to be danced in front of three judges. Cuts will then be made to determine the top 10 dancers are that will advance to the second and final round.
The top 10 dancers selected to advance from Round 1 will choose another top 10 dancer out of a hat to be his or hers performance partner for Round 2. In the time between rounds the pairs will choreograph a duet to a genre they choose to be performed in the finale on Jan. 22 at 7:30pm in Whitley. Each contestant will also have to prepare a new 30-second solo in his or her signature style. Elon’s Favorite Dancer will then be chosen by the judges and audience vote. Their grand prize is a SOLO in our DanceWorks concert in April and a DanceWorks tshirt or sweatshirt with their Elon’s Favorite Dancer title on it.
While audience members are welcome to observe the audition process during Round 1, everyone from the Elon community is highly encouraged to attend Round 2, the finale show, since they will vote to decide who wins the title of Elon’s Favorite Dancer. Audience admission is $2.00.
PLEASE consider auditioning! If you don’t have time to choreograph a solo, feel free to try out your improv skills. This is a great performance and choreography opportunity with minimal time commitment. Can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table!!
