On September 9, for a fifth consecutive year, Elon Law continued its tradition of monthly receptions with the legal community, providing law students with a regular opportunity to interact with judges and lawyers in the region.
During the reception, law school dean George Johnson honored Greensboro attorney Steve Crihfield for his contributions to the law school, particularly his service through the Preceptor Program. For all of his contributions to the law school since its inception, Johnson named Crihfield the school’s first Preceptor Emeritus.
Many of the attorneys who attended the reception serve as volunteers in the Preceptor Program. Preceptors observe first-year students in law classes and provide feedback, facilitating a reflection process that helps students continuously improve in their preparation and development as lawyers. Preceptors also invite students to accompany them to observe trials, client interviews, depositions, and mediations.
“I love coming to this receptions,” said second-year student Whitney Butcher. “The Preceptor Program is such an indispensable part of the Elon Law experience. These receptions give students a great opportunity to mingle with practicing attorneys that serve as great role models and resources throughout our academic career.”
On October 14 and November 11, Elon Law will host its second and third monthly receptions of the semester, welcoming preceptors and other guests from the legal community.
