Members of Elon’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi competed in the 2011 Best Practices Competition sponsored by Deloitte at the Southeast Regional conference, held February 25-26 in Charlotte, N.C.
Alex Dempsey, Madeline Benn and Jake Schoenfeld placed first in a field of six teams in the “Enhancing Our Role in Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility” category. This is Elon’s third win in the Best Practices competition since the chapter’s inception in 2006.
Their presentation demonstrated how they are educating students on Elon’s Sustainability policies and pursuing partnerships with Habitat for Humanity to develop “carbon-neutral communities.” The team will compete in the Best Practices finals, to be held in August during the BAP Annual Conference in Denver.
Jamie Milliski, Sam Upton, Justin Wanner and David Campbell presented in the “Helping Others Understand the Financial Information Professions” category, competing against 10 teams. As a result of the research for their presentation, the team developed a new service project for Elon’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Starting this fall, members of BAP will serve as mentors to local high school students and youth groups, and will educate them on basic financial skills and opportunities in the financial professions. The team will be giving a similar presentation at the upcoming BAP Annual Conference in August.
Current chapter president Jennifer Kirts and faculty advisor Patty Cox also attended the Southeast Regional Conference.
