Charles Hogan, organ – March 13

Whitley Auditorium, 3 p.m.

On Sunday, March 13, Charles Hogan will play the second of three recitals celebrating the 10th anniversary of Whitley Auditorium’s Alyse Smith Cooper Casavant Organ. The recital will feature music written by French composers including Henri Mulet, Olivier Messiaen, Louis Vierne, and Charles-Marie Widor. Hallie Coppedge Hogan, Hogan’s wife and Elon’s coordinator of vocal studies, will join him for Vierne’s song cycle Les Angelus.

The hour-long program ends with Widor’s monumental sixth organ symphony.

Hogan taught piano on Elon’s adjunct music faculty for six years. Since that time, he has concertized around the United States, London, and Paris. He was featured in 2008 by the American Guild of Organists in a Cincinnati recital honoring the centenary of the organization. Having been minister of music at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Burlington and the director of music at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, he is currently the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.
