Pendulum applications are due TODAY

The Pendulum, Elon's award-winning daily news gathering organization, will have several executive staff positions open starting in the fall semester, and applications are due TODAY.

Descriptions of the jobs are below. Applications are available by clicking on the link to the right, and they’re due TODAY, April 27. (OR DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION HERE.) Please fill out the application and drop it off at the Pendulum office in McEwen 009 or e-mail it to editor Anna Johnson at ajohnson18@elon.edu.

We’re looking for well qualified applicants with a thirst for news, strong writing abilities, photographic skill, energy for page design and/or a willingness to work online with video, audio and other multimedia tools. Some positions require five office hours a week and come with a weekly stipend.

Opportunities to do more than simply write are available.  The Pendulum continues to make great strides into the online world, and it welcomes students who are willing to shoot video and photos, create podcasts, interactive graphics and produce Soundslides photo essays.

The Pendulum, which has been honored with a national Pacemaker award, is a highly creative environment, seeking intelligent, committed and driven students. If you fit that description, then apply immediately regardless of major or year.

Online Managing Editor
Are you the blog, podcast and social media guru?  Then this position is for you.  We’re looking for someone to assist the online editor-in-chief in coordinating multimedia editors, blog contributors and podcasters. Would be responsible for overseeing the multiple Pendulum blogs and podcasts, and promoting them through social media.    

Features Editor
Do you like writing about people? What about exciting, unexplored stories on Elon’s campus? If you do, then join our staff as a features editor. We’re looking for a creative student who is able to unearth a great story idea. Applicants should also have a strong leadership skills and be able to manage a group of reporters.

Design Editor*
Do you dream of text boxes, well-placed pictures and awesome infographics? Are you loving the Pendulum’s new look? Then join our staff as a design editor. We’re looking for someone who is creative, fun and pays a high attention to detail to join our design team. A qualified candidate would have strong InDesign and Photoshop skills. Headline and cutline writing skills are important too! Spelling abilities are a bonus! (Colombia vs. Columbia – it’s a toughie!)

Copy Editor*
Do you have a sharp eye for grammar, punctuation and AP Style errors? If so, this is the job for you. We’re looking for people to look over copy diligently and ensure that the Pendulum has all it’s T’s crossed and I’s dotted.

Senior Reporter (News, Style and Sports)*
If reporting is your game, then this is the job for you. Join the staff as a senior reporter and work on the big stories and tackle the important beats. This is definitely a way to compile great clips for your future internships and careers.  Positions are available in our News, Style and Sports sections.

Assistant Sports Editor
Got game?  This position would assist the sports editor in generating sports content for the paper. Must coordinate with columnists, photo assignments and coverage. Must help maintain sports blog and be willing to record podcasts at least once a week.

Staff Photographers*
Photographers are responsible for shooting photos, working on in-depth photostories and producing multimedia slideshows. Must have knowledge of Photoshop and be capable of writing effective cutlines.

Multimedia Editor*
Responsible for completing assignments for The Pendulum Online. Applicant should be able to shoot and edit video, help with podcasts, write for blogs and help create interactive graphics. Proficency with video equiptment and Final Cut is preferred but not required.
