The Department of Sport and Event Management recently held its annual end-of-year banquet to recognize graduating seniors and outstanding student majors and minors.

Amanda Portoghese received the “Major of the Year” award for her academic achievements and contributions to the department and the Premier Sport and Event Society, which she served on the executive board for the past two years and as vice-president in 2010-11.

Portoghese was also recognized in San Diego, Calif., earlier in the year by the National Association for Sport & Physical Education as the Sport Management Major of the Year.

Samantha Brain was the recipient of the Sport and Event Management Endowed Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year, selected by the faculty from a competitive pool of applicants.

Jessica Clinch received recognition as the “Underclassman of the Year” for academic achievement and service over the past two years. Sam Miller and Taylor Shaw each received “Achievement Awards” for their academic performance and service contributions to the Department and the University. Erin Bradley and Teri Horn were recognized with “Service Awards” for their outstanding contributions to Elon University and our community over their four years at Elon.

All graduating majors and minors received a gift from the department and well wishes from the faculty for their “life after Elon.”
