The new First Thursdays Current Issues Forum is an initiative co-sponsored by Project Pericles and the Office of the Vice President for Student Life. Join fellow students, faculty and staff the first Thursday of every month for a lively discussion of a current event.

September 1, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m., West Hall commons (completely renovated for 2011)

Tom Arcaro, a professor of sociology and director of Project Pericles, will lead the September forum. We’ll bring the lemonade and cookies, you bring your voice.

Located in the “Horn of Africa,” Somalia is one of the poorest and most violent countries in the world. Two missed rainy seasons in 2011 has left this country in one of the worst droughts in sixty years. Somalia has one of the highest rates of malnutrition in the world with over half of its 9.3 million people afflicted.
