First Thursdays Current Issue Forum: “Unpacking Privilege: Reframing Bias Incidents on Campus”

The new First Thursdays Current Issues Forum is an initiative co-sponsored by Project Pericles and the Office of the Vice President for Student Life. Join fellow students, faculty and staff the first Thursday of every month for a lively discussion of a current event.

“Unpacking Privilege: Reframing Bias Incidents on Campus”

October 6, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. in West Commons (newly renovated West Parlor)

In light of recently reported bias incidents on campus, this forum will examine the wider structures of power and privilege that influence how we perceive differences. Through a facilitated activity and discussion, we will address systems of oppression, including how they are perpetuated and how they shape our individual experiences. This knowledge will enable us to be more conscious of the diversity around us and build a more inclusive community at Elon.

Elizabeth Nelson, the Violence Prevention Coordinator on campus, will facilitate the activity and discussion. Please take 45 minutes out of your day to join us for this important conversation. Snacks will be provided!
