Kavita Ramdas, “Ripples to Waves: How Women’s Movements are Leading Change Across the Globe”

Kavita Ramdas is a senior advisor for the Global Fund for Women, providing direction for the nonprofit grantmaking foundation that focuses on supporting international women’s rights. Ramdas is an expert on social justice philanthropy and international development. She holds masters degrees in Public Affairs and International Development Studies from Princeton University. She is fluent in Hindi/Urdu, English and German, and conversational in Tamil, Spanish and French.

About the Lecture

Ramdas’ Elon presentation will augment the university discussion for the 2011-12 Common Reading, Creating a World Without Poverty by Muhammad Yunus. She will discuss how women’s movements are leading change across the globe. Another focus of her lecture will be CEDAW – the United Nations Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, a treaty that serves as an international bill for rights of women. Ramdas will address how the United States can make steps to employ this bill.
