Elon students participate in service project in Vietnam

Elon students participated in a service project at Trung Tam Xa Hoi Quang, a home for the elderly in Hoi An, Vietnam, as part of the winter term course “Business and Culture of Vietnam.”

Students and professors gathered on a Sunday morning to visit with residents and sing songs. A special lunch, including hot soup and French baguettes, was provided through a monetary gift from the university. Elon students showed enthusiasm and warmth, which helped overcome the language barrier. Residents were very happy for the extra food, companionship and songs.

Course director Betsy Stevens, associate professor of business administration, said she knew the visit had reached the hearts of the people when a woman named “Ba” raised her thumb and said to the group in halting English, “You are number one!”
