Students from Elon University’s School of Communications and Interactive Media master’s program placed in several awards categories of this year’s Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts. They will be recognized at the organization’s annual conference April 15-18 in Las Vegas.
Student Documentary Competition
Senior Dan Koehler placed first in the Long Form Video category for his documentary “The Tobacco King.”
Student Interactive Media Competition
Interactive Media master’s students Chris Kirkham and Jessica Torrez-Riley placed first in the Authorship Projects category for their interactive infographic Colony Collapse Disorder.
Student News Competition
Phoenix14News, Elon’s weekly newscast, placed second in the Television Newscast category.
Senior Don Granese received an honorable mention in the Television Feature Reporting category for his package “Occupy Greensboro.”
Junior Steve Roth received an honorable mention in the Television Hard News Reporting category for his package “Prescription Drug Abuse on Campus.”
Student Sports Competition
Senior Christine Williams received an honorable mention in the TV Sports Story/Feature/Show Element/Segment or News Program category for her package “Concussions and Congress.”
Senior Aaron Moger received an honorable mention in the TV Sports Story/Feature/Show Element/Segment or News Program category for his Elon men’s basketball preview.
Student Video Competition
Seniors Michael Soucy and Will Anderson received an honorable mention in the Animation/Experimental/Mixed category for “Forgotten.”
Seniors Jenna Troester, Will Anderson, David Gwynn, Taylor Shain and Ian Boyd received an honorable mention in the Narrative Video competition for “Focus.”
