Warren Record: Grassroots efforts ‘police’ government openness

From the Warren Record (3/14/12): A grassroots effort is under way in the town of Warrenton to urge government transparency and greater citizen involvement in making sure that all government action is conducted “out in the sunshine.”

The Inspiration

Among the Warrenton residents leading the charge is local businessperson Anne Harris, who said that she has always had an interest in government, particularly local government.

Among her major concerns have been government actions related to open meeting laws and proper notification of public meetings.

“Late last year, I had occasion to have a problem with (Warrenton) government and quickly learned that representatives of the town did not know or did not care if they were doing things right,” Harris said.
