Elon University to take part in “Earth Hour” on March 31

On Saturday, March 31, Elon University will participate in the “Earth Hour” international environmental event.

From 8:30-9:30 p.m., the exterior lights from Young Commons to Scott Plaza will be turned off in recognition of the event, as well as any unnecessary interior lights in surrounding buildings. Students who work in the Office of Sustainability are spearheading the effort.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by turning off their lights during Earth Hour. Faculty and staff are asked to turn off all office area lights, including lamps, on Friday before leaving for the weekend.

In 2011, more than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour, sending a powerful message for action on climate change.
