David Levine engages copyright and cyber law at Drake and UNC law schools

Elon Law Professor David Levine recently presented at Drake University Law School and the University of North Carolina School of Law, examining issues in intellectual property law and the Internet.

On April 12, at the UNC School of Law, Levine participated in a forum titled, “Searching for a Middle Ground: Can We Stop Online Piracy While Still Protecting Speech?” The forum was hosted by the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy and the Carolina Intellectual Property Law Association.

Speakers at the forum presenting with Levine included:

  • Alfred Perry, vice president, worldwide content protection & outreach, Paramount Pictures;
  • Ron Wheeler, senior vice president, content protection, Fox Entertainment Group;
  • Markham Erickson, founding partner, Holch & Erickson LLP.

On March 30, at the 2012 Intellectual Property Scholars Roundtable of Drake University Law School, Levine presented insights from his article, “Bring in the Nerds: Secrecy, National Security and the Creation of Intellectual Property Law,” forthcoming in the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal.

In addition, Levine recently co-signed an open letter to the Columbian legislature expressing concern about pending intellectual property legislation there related to the U.S-Columbia Free Trade Agreement.
