Communications assistant professor Vanessa Bravo presented a peer-reviewed paper at the Center for Global Public Relations' annual conference April 20. CGPR is located at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Bravo’s paper, titled “Invisible but soon able to vote: The contradictions of the state-diaspora relations in Costa Rica,” was presented in the conference session “Government and Communication.”
CGPR’s conference, named “Communicating Beyond Borders: Building Relationships Among Corporations, NGOs and Governments,” was attended by researchers from universities such as Purdue, Johns Hopkins, Clemson, George Mason, Virginia Commonwealth, Aarhus (Denmark), the University of Florida and the University of Oregon, among others.
Bravo’s paper explained the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship-building process that the government of Costa Rica establishes with its diaspora community in the United States.
Bravo joined the School of Communications in the fall of 2011, just before obtaining her Ph.D. in Mass Communications from the University of Florida.
