Elon Law faculty provide analysis of John Edwards trial

Elon Law professors Catherine Dunham, Steve Friedland and Michael Rich have provided analysis of the John Edwards trial for national and international media.

The trial, taking place at the federal courthouse in Greensboro, North Carolina, began on April 23.

The jury in the trial will decide whether to convict Edwards, the former U.S. Senator, presidential candidate and Democratic nominee for Vice President, on six felony charges of violating federal campaign contribution laws to cover up an extramarital affair. Edwards faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine if convicted.

Dunham, associate dean for academic affairs and professor of law at Elon, has provided analysis of the trial for NBC News, appearing on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and the Today Show. Friedland, senior scholar and professor of law at Elon, is a former federal prosecutor whose areas of expertise include criminal law and evidence. Rich, an assistant professor of law at Elon, has provided analysis of the Edwards trial for ABC News, CBS News, CNN, The Daily Beast, Fox News, and the Los Angeles Times. His areas of expertise include criminal and civil government fraud litigation.
