The United Way of Alamance County held its Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon at the Alamance Country Club on May 15, 2012, with more than 150 local businesses, leaders and volunteers in attendance.
Elon University received the Dave Knotts Campaign Award, which is presented each year to the employee group in the nonprofit and government sector judged to have conducted the most outstanding employee solicitation program during the campaign. Selection is based on campaign elements including:
– Organization-wide communication about United Way
– Organization-sponsored incentive programs offered to employees who contribute
– Use of Speaker Program and/or Auto Rally cars
– CEO endorsement & involvement
Presented to Elon University by Jerry Bailey, the current Cabinet Campaign Chair, “We have a very deserving winner this year for the Dave Knotts Award. The winner increased their employee giving by 57.3 percent to $58,129 and provided a $15,000 corporate gift. They also increased their participation by 90.2 percent, adding an extra 202 donors! This was their highest grossing campaign ever.”
Executive Vice President Gerry Francis, Professor Nancy Midgette and Janet Rauhe, manager of Phoenix Card services, accepted the plaque on behalf of the university. Midgette and Rauhe were the campaign coordinators at the university.
In other business matters, Assistant Provost and Associate Professor Peter Felten was nominated and elected for his first three-year term as a board member for the United Way of Alamance beginning July 1. Additionally, Elon’s Tammy Cobb was recognized as co-chair of the Campaign Cabinet Education Division along with Jenny Faulkner of the Alamance-Burlington School System. Cobb and Faulkner will continue in their co-chair roles for their fourth year.
