The Carteret, N.C., News-Times profiled Mary B. Safrit '12 in early September, just before she began an 11-month service program called The World Race.
Through the program, Safrit will be part of a team that travels to 11 nations in 11 months, engaging in service projects to benefit needy communities. Stops along the way are expected to include Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
Safrit, a music major while at Elon who hopes to pursue a career in songwriting when she returns to the United States next July, is documenting her travels in photos and written reflections on her blog.
Another Elon alumnus, Kyle Johnson ’10, participated in The World Race, the year after graduating.
